This commission was for the logo and branding of a TikTok account called 'Wheel Misfortunate,' that posts content related to a card game called 'Magic the Gathering.' The account owner made it clear that he wanted a modern, minimalistic look with a red and black color scheme. Furthermore, it was requested that the logo be inspired by the artwork from one of the game cards.

I started out by asking the owner for logos that had the style that I should emulate, all of which had a simple logo with bright colors and the name of the website/media account. Keeping this in mind, I decided to create a simpler, more geometric form of the artwork on the card, which was a spiked wheel with a sword in the middle. Creating a pleasing design for the wheel was fairly easy, but the sword took some trial and error to get right.
At first, I tried to emulate the geometric look that is seen on the card. However, it ended up being a strange mesh of random shapes, and didn't even resemble a sword. Realizing this, I decided to create a sleeker, more traditional looking sword that still retained the high fantasy roots of the original art. I also persuaded the account owner that black and red would be a better color scheme. This turned out to be the better choice, as the smooth contours of the new design made for a great match with the sharp black spikes of the wheel.
As a bonus element, I created a banner design, which uses the recognizable sword element with the name of the account and a large 'W' and 'M' to make the initials of the name stand out. I just couldn't leave the potential symmetry of the page unused, and I think that the results speak for themselves.
